Starting a new job in the heart of Cape Town is probably one of the scariest but at the same time the most exciting things I have experience. As much as I would love to say that it was the easiest things that I have ever done, it would have been a lie. I was super nervous and trust me inside I had that Terrible Two Tantrums, simply because I was stepping out of my comfort bubble.

The biggest challenge about starting a job wasn’t the fact that I was going into my new company with totally different people but it was the fact that I had to start taking public transport and some people that I may be acting like a “snob” but it wasn't that, it was the fact that I had get into the fast line of travelling. When I was at campus taking the bus was easy compared to the train.

But being a girl I had the worlds greatest dilemma in life, like it ruined my day which was “ What do I need to travel?” you may think that it is a question that can be ridiculously simple minded but let me tell you that I was incredibly lost and confused. Nobody wants to travel with unnecessary items that will just make you life even more difficult.

From trial and error I have come up with the best combination that will answer the entire question that I had from the beginning of my travelling. But before I get into what goes into the bag we need to know what is the best bag for what you need. Personally from my line of work I found that using a backpack is so much easier for the walking and on focusing on getting yourself to your destination without, it comes down to the point in every way shape or form, in my job I have many gadgets that I need to carry (laptop, chargers, earphone etc.) so my bag got a little bit bulky.

Girls will be girls and if we had the choice we would taking everything in our rooms and make it fit in our bag, right? But trust me this does not work for us all the time, especially in this care Heres my list of must have items that I need to have in bag that I have down sized to the most important items that I need in my bag, bare in mind some of items I find important, may not be important in your particular line of work.

Here is my Metro-Travel Essentials.

  • Earphones: Easy Entertainment when travelling but “if you can hear it, it could hurt you”

  • Power Bank: while you can’t have entertainment if u don’t have battery life

  • Mini wallet: its easy to hide, my suggestion to keep some change and maybe R50 note not more than R 100 as a safe net

  • Chewing gum/Mints: its a good freshener when u running into a meeting after lunch.

  • Vanity Bag

  • Tissues

  • Lip Balm

  • Hand Cream

  • Hand Sanitizer

  • Travelling Ticket/s: ill be speaking about this later in the post

  • Mini memo pad & Pen :we all have those moments when we need to jot down what u think

  • Keys

  • Mini First Aid kit

  • Headache Meds

  • Plasters

  • Small bottle of disinfectant

Short and simple, but to save you back by mini bottle (sample sizes) that will help a lot with saving space in the bag.

Heres some advise that will work for you.

If you are using public transport the best thing that you can do have an idea of more than you primary mode of transport, I’m not saying that you need to buy a month to month ticket for all of them but at least have an idea of what other modes of transport you can use. Also if you living in Cape Town the best thing of you to have is a My Citi Bus Card as a backup of a back up.

So if you ever in the portion when you need to start using public transport, just remember that u not alone, I wish I had this when I started travelling. I hope this helps.

Till next time :)
