Beauty Spot: Oil

So as I have mentioned in my previous post one of my key winter essentials is coconut oil.

It seriously is the best DIY/ multipurpose product especially for winter because of it obvious hydrating properties but seriously what all do I use it all for this winter?

Hope you have some time because this quite a list.

Firstly let’s talk DIY:

I love using this for body scrubs, all I do is mix some sugar +/-2 tablespoons of sugar and 1 tablespoon of coconut oil together (consistency need to be more sugary than oily) then scrub scrub scrub in the shower and you are welcome.

Another little “DIY” is using this for is a body lotion, now if you like me and you cannot stand being smothered in oil, I simply mix a dollop of this with my favourite body lotion and it’s soft skin here we come.

You can also use this as a money saving eye cream (because we all know how expensive those are), just dab a tiny bit under your eye area and bobs your uncle this is especially effective when you have dry under areas.

Since we on the topic of dry facial areas, you know that flaking that you get thanks to the lovely drying winter? So put a little coconut oil on that area (post exfoliation) and leave it on overnight.

You can also simply use this as a face cleanser because coconut oil is naturally antibacterial, antifungal, moisturizing. I use this at night to deep clean my face and then I wash my face again with a cleansing lotion to remove any residue product.

But if you not into washing your entire face with this and you just want to get rid of your stubborn eye makeup, simply soak some in a cotton swap and let the easy peezy makeup removal process begin. Coconut oil is also great as a makeup brush cleaner, it works wonders and zero trace of makeup will be left, pour some coconut oil in to a bowl soak the brush in the oil for a few seconds then wash it off with a gentle face cleanser (the cetaphil cleansing lotion is a good example)

Next on the list is dry hands and cuticles, to me this is not a problem that occurs only in winter (so keep some coconut oil handy all year round), this one is simple when your hands feel dry simply rub a pea size amount on your hands or cuticles when you feel you need it and let it soak in and if you wanting a little DIY hand mask vibe simply rub a sufficient amount on to your hands and cover your hands with either latex gloves or cling wrap, leave it on for a few minutes and wham bam hydrated hands

Last but not least let’s talk hair, coconut oil can be used as a deep conditioner - apply on to your tips and leave on while in the shower and rinse before getting out, a leave in conditioner/mask - normally when I know I am going to wash my hair the next day I apply this to my tips overnight and wow does it make all the difference and then of course a fizz tamer - bye bye fly aways, simply run a pea size amount midshaft to ends leaving your hair healthy and frizz free.

Sjoe I tried making that as short and to the point as possible… are you still with me? Because now that you know all the wonders I use coconut oil for, here are a few I recommend:

1. The body shop coconut beautifying oil (my personal fave) – R130 available at The Body Shop and Clicks stores.

2. The Wellness Warehouse’s own brand wellness organic coconut oil – R115 exclusive to The Wellness Warehouse stores.

3. Crede’s organic coconut oil (which I hear is also good for cooking) – from R79.99 available at Wellness Warehouse and Woolworths stores.

So tell me what are your fave uses for coconut oil?

Have a fab one x
